Terms of use
Last updated: 31 October 2026
These terms apply when you use Who Was That at who-was-that.net. By using the site, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
1. Who we are
Who-Was-That.net is run by Who Was That. Contact: contact@who-was-that.net.
2. What the service is
Who Was That is a free tool that shows information about phone numbers: what type of number it is, the area or country, network details, data breach information and reports from other visitors. We are not connected to Ofcom, the police, any bank or any phone network.
3. No guarantees
We do our best to show accurate information, but we can't guarantee it is correct, complete or up to date. Numbers change owner and network, data providers make mistakes and scammers can fake (spoof) any number. A number with no reports is not proof that a call was genuine, and a reported number is not proof that every call from it is a scam. Always use your own judgement, and contact organisations through their official phone number or website.
4. Acceptable use
You may use Who Was That only for lawful, personal purposes, such as finding out who called you. You must not:
- use the site to stalk, harass, threaten or identify people against their will;
- check numbers in bulk or use bots, scrapers or other automated tools;
- copy our database or resell information from the site;
- try to get around our limits or disrupt the site.
We may block access if we believe these terms are being broken.
5. Your reports
When you report a call, you confirm that your report is honest and based on your own experience. Do not include names, addresses, other personal details, insults or false accusations. You give us a free, permanent licence to publish, edit and remove your report. We may moderate, shorten or remove reports at any time, without explanation. Reports are the opinion of the person who posted them, not of Who Was That.
6. Adverts and affiliate links
The site may show adverts for apps and services, for example spam call blockers. Some links are affiliate links: if you buy through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Products from other companies are covered by their own terms. We are not responsible for their products or websites.
7. Scam help referrals
If you ask for help through our scam help page, we may introduce you to a partner investigation firm. Who Was That does not investigate cases or recover money itself, and we don't charge you for an introduction. Any agreement you make is between you and the partner firm, under their own terms and fees. We can't guarantee that a partner will take on your case or that any money will be recovered.
8. Links to other websites
We link to other websites, such as Ofcom, Report Fraud and app stores, for your convenience. We are not responsible for the content of those websites.
9. Liability
The service is free and provided "as is". As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage that results from using the site or relying on its information, including decisions to answer, return or ignore a call. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
10. Changes
We may change the service or these terms at any time. The date at the top shows when the terms last changed. If you keep using the site after a change, the new terms apply.
11. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in the courts there.
